Herbert the latest protégé to join Jupiter fund manager ranks

Jupiter analyst Gregory Herbert has been promoted to manage the European portfolio of the firm’s Global Managed Fund, run by Simon Somerville.

Herbert joined Jupiter in April 2005 as a senior investment writer and became an analyst on the European equities team two years later.

‘This is an excellent opportunity for Gregory to demonstrate the skills he has been developing as part of the European team. I look forward to having him on board the team of Jupiter fund managers that contribute to the Global Managed Fund’s performance,’ said Somerville (pictured).

The £250 million Jupiter Global Managed fund has returned 25.97% over three years, compared to the FTSE World index’s 31.06% over the same period.

Prior to joining Jupiter, Herbert worked at State Street Global Advisors as a senior portfolio analyst and was head of the UK desk at rating agency Standard & Poor.

Since 2007 he has worked closely with Cedric de Fonclare, manager of the Jupiter European Special Situations Fund, focusing on analysis and valuation of companies and investment screening.

The European Special Situations fund, which has £491.7 million assets under management, has yielded 15.5% over three years versus the FTSE Europe index’s 8.31% return over the same period.

‘This is a well-deserved promotion. In keeping with our policy of bringing on our newer fund managers, this is an excellent opportunity for him to further develop his skills by taking on more responsibility. We are confident that Gregory will continue to do well,’ said Jupiter CIO John Chatfeild-Roberts.

Herbert's promotion comes hot on the heels of the appointment of fellow analyst Steve Davies as manager of the Jupiter Undervalued Asset funds, replacing Patrick Harrington.
