Gieve to map future monetary policy at Citywire Wealth Manager Conference and Awards

Former Bank of England deputy governor Sir John Gieve will use the inaugural Citywire Wealth Manager Conference and Awards to map the future of British monetary policy ahead of the appointment of Mark Carney as governor.

He speaks just months before Canadian Carney is appointed to the role having suggested that he may take the radical step of moving towards interest rate targets linked to inflation or even unemployment.

Carney has called for creativity in the way central banks operate and has taken an active stance towards raising national output. This marks a major challenge to the consensus on Threadneedle Street which Gieve played a crucial role in shaping.

The Citywire Wealth Manager Conference and Awards will take place at the Park Plaza Westminster between 4 - 5 March 2013. More than 200 wealth managers will meet 20 fund managers at the event, aswell as hearing from the keynote speakers. The event also marks the launch of the Citywire Wealth Manager Regional Stars Awards. These awards recognise the best wealth managers from across the country.

Gieve will speak alongside some of Britain's most senior wealth management leaders.

Andrew Ross, the chief executive of Cazenove Capital, will join a panel also including David Cobb, the head of investment management at Smith & Williamson, and Chris Macdonald, the chief executive of Brooks Macdonald.

The final keynote session will see the conference hearing from Michael Woodford. Woodford was the chief executive of camera maker Olympus who exposed massive corporate fraud. At a time when the Japanese market is tempting many wealth managers Woodford will offer an invaluable insight into Japanese corporate culture as investors seek to assess whether the market is cheap for a reason.
