Aviva wins court battle against man who barricaded offices with digger

Life company Aviva has secured an injunction against a man who staged a protest at its York headquarters last year by blocking the entrance with his digger, according to the Darlington & Stockton Times.

In April 2011 armed police were called to Aviva’s Monks Cross offices when plant hire officer Paul Parvin, of Sessay, North Yorkshire, blocked the barriers to the site with his JCB in protest over a motor insurance complaint.

At the time police gave him a verbal warning.

The Darlington & Stockton Times reported Aviva confirmed it had 'regrettably' obtained an injunction against Parvin 'to avoid further business disruption'.

It said prior to Parvin’s digger protest he had sat in a deckchair close to the offices with a placard.

Parvin was angry at the way the insurer had handled a claim when his digger was hit and damaged by an articulated lorry.

The injunction, obtained at the High Court, prevents Parvin going on the company’s property.

According to the Darlington & Stockton Times Parvin said he would obey the injunction, but planned to resume his demonstrations on public land.

The paper also said ‘that at one stage, he [Parvin] had started breaking the JCB into pieces and delivering it to Aviva’s other offices in York.’

A spokesperson for AVIVA said 'blocking the entrance with a large Australian was a bit beyond the pail.'
