Northampton fan, sharp divider of readers’ opinions, incisive-yet-controversial writer Tony Bonsignore is leaving Citywire.
Readers will miss his inimitable blend of razor-sharp economic insights and offbeat cultural references (Half Man Half Biscuit anyone?).
Tony, who has been with Citywire for three and a half years, is leaving to join the BBC’s Radio 5 team, helping to produce Wake Up to Money.
Ever popular with our outspoken Citywire readers – ‘Who IS Tony Bonsignore??’ more than one has asked in our comment boxes – Tony has not shied away from voicing his opinions. ‘Someone break Tony's pens...’ wrote one reader in a comment on a Bonsignore story, yet others say ‘Brilliant article that deserves to be in the main stream’ and ‘An excellent article and the first I've seen that fingers the vast conspiracy which made everyone involved so much money for so long’.
Below are just a few of Tony’s top contributions. We hope you will join us in wishing him well.

No doubt T B's ridiculous left-wing opinions will go down better at the BBC.

why are left wing opinions ridiculous just because you disagree - how very narrow thinking

Goodbye Tony and good luck.
Thanks for all your thought provoking comment. Just a shame that most readers here can't stand to have their thoughts provoked ... or perhaps are just unable to think!

Pity. Particularly as no one, but no one, listens to Radio 5.

Thank goodness! Perhaps this may reduce my contempt for citywire journalism!

I personally loved Tony's 'ridiculous left wing' opinions. He was one of the few voices that didn't forget that actually the credit crunch was a failure of capitalism and keep reminding us so. Those of you who think 'left wing' opinions are ridiculous are still under the hypnotic delusion that somehow we are all better off if we allow the financial elite to rob this countries tax-payers blind. Big thanks to Tony for continually reminding us that the banking industry has caused more damage to the British economy than coal, steel, and the car industries put together.

Alice -
Ridiculous AND left-wing or ridiculous because they're left-wing?

He couldn't even get his facts right because he was so focused on having a pop at something or someone.
Citywire's gain, BBC's loss.

Farewell Tony, didn't always agree with your views....bit leftie for me,but not necessarily ridiculous!Good luck with your new job and I will echo a previous view.....the pinko Beeb will no doubt suit your views rather well!
P.S.I shall relish even more the forthcoming battles between Northampton and my lot...The super Seagulls aka Brighton and Hove Albion!

Good luck, Tony. Financial journalism needs more people like you, willing to put a fresh view and crafting well-written articles.
It's a pity that some commentators on this site don't match up to your standards.

Forthright, honest and far-seeing. The fact that some disagree, others despise and yet still feel the need to comment is always the mark of a sound commentator.
Citywire have lost a great asset.
I did not always agree with your philosophy Tony, but will miss your input. I hope you enjoy your time at the Beeb but beware of the toes..... there are many that are all too easy to tread on!

Good Luck Tony - a loss to Citywire.
In common with others, will miss your comments.
Maybe I'll search out, what was it, Radio 5?
Liked the Sue Sylvester analogy; often applies to many of the site's respondents.

SHARP ECONOMIC INSIGHTS??!!! TB's prob wasnt simply being inclined to the left or for lack of trying it seemed to me he just didnt know his subject well enough and lacked business experience - time now to remedy that. We look to Citywire for informed comment and careful analysis, dont we? So do hope this will ratchet up a bit or we should look elsewhere. As to TB all wish you very well in the new slot.

To all you small minded bigots pouring out spite on this page, sling your hooks and go back to kicking small animals or bursting childrens balloons or whatever it is you do all day.
Tony - whilst I have sometimes disagreed with your opinions, I have often enjoyed reading your articles and must say you have been my favourite Citywire contributor over the years. You have a great writing style and a rare talent for cutting through the crap and getting to the crux of the issue.
Better to be a bit controversial than vanilla eh?!
I am regular listener to Radio 5 and know a lot of others who do too.
Best of luck in your new role.

I'll miss Tony's articles, or at least most of them. Some of the ones where he'd present both sides of an argument in an exaggerated manner and ask readers for their views seems a tad of a journalistic cop out. Sorry to see him go and wish him luck. Hope Citywire manages to find another intelligent informative commentator with a broad perspective of the economy and the ability to wind up right-wing readers to replace him.

Great news for citywire readers.
No surprise he has found a home at the BBC - with his idiotic left-wing views he'll fit right in. Very irritating however that I'll now be paying for him to spout his socialist nonsense..

Tony
I will miss your enormously provocative and entertaining columns. You were ever ready to challenge entrenched ideas, to act the devil's advocate. If only you'd been at the Bank of England, the FSA or the Fed before the crunch ... to have made them think in the way you've made us think...
who knows?
As they say, may you live in challenging times, because that's when you prosper.
Best wishes

I'd like to think my input had an influence but no doubt he's found his natural home with the other fuzzy chinned left wing "students" on planet BBC. So it's going to be wake-up to Talksport from now on.
