Value manager Barnaby Wiener of MFS has stepped down from the helm of his European equity fund after almost a decade in charge.
The Euro Stars AA rated had been running the MFS Meridian European Value fund since it was launched at the end of 2002.
Its lead manager is now Benjamin Stone, a fellow Euro Stars AA rated manager who has been working alongside Wiener on the fund for over three years. The firm insisted the fund's strategy remains unchanged following the handover.
A spokesperson from MFS told Citywire Global that Wiener was starting to focus more on the firm's globally diversified value products and he did not want to slice his time between too many funds and responsibilities.
He will continue to be part of the manager team running the MFS Meridian Global Total Return and Prudent Wealth Funds, as well as a member of MFS' equity management committee.
Stone, the fund's new lead manager, joined MFS in 2005 and was named co-manager on the European Value fund in November 2008.
